but NZ is naturally conducive to hydrogeneration, with rocky, steep sided valleys.

the major downside to hydro is all the dead plants when you flood a valey to make the hydro lake, they all produce phenominal ammounts of methane.

Anyway, most countries use Nuclear and coal for thier baseline electricity production, and only use thier hydro cpacity for peak production.
We do pretty much the exact reverse.
