about. It's the worst thing I have at hand to complain about, because I can't be bothered right now to go looking for things to gripe about.
And it's not about "we don't believe that" -- it's about negotiating to get a proper document into the outbox, instead of some watered-down powerless thing. You complain about the UN being futile -- well stop sabotaging it, dash it.
Why did "respect for nature" get deleted? Nature = our environment = what we have to live in and with for a very long time to come. Not treating it properly will come back to bite us.
These millenium development goals: the US is a party to the treaty. So show some concern about its slow implementation -- and if not about its slow implementation, then about the results (in short: people unnecessarily dying) of its goals not being reached.
A central part of fighting corruption is corporate responsibility and accountability -- so why scrap that from the draft? What's to be gained thereby? The only companies that could have problems with that would be irresponsible ones, or ones that would rather not be held accountable.
Disarmament is a central part of creating peace. Granted, axing the military would be stupid. But who needs ICBMs, really?
As for the ICC: what point is there in not recognising it? How does that benefit the US, or any other country that does not commit war crimes?
Also, I think you might want to see one thing clearly: the UN is not a federation -- it is a forum, where countries meet and argue and debate, in order to get things done that otherwise could not be done. So I wouldn't fear "handing over control" to them -- you're not. |
