Both by the satellite and the receiving station.

Geostationary would require *less* tracking and less shadow.
Shadow could be mitigated by having stations draw power from 2 or 3 satellites.

OTOH, I imagine there'd be an increasing loss of efficiency at higher latitudes (and more cooked goose).

But this is all extremely hypothetical.
