Light rail is smart in environmental terms usually. The nimbys usually hate it because of property values though and make up things to fight against it, including false environmental claims. Here with the new 'RAV' line the nimbys are claiming that the tunnel they will be digging will be an environmental problem because gas stations used to be along the route, yet they can't claim that overall the RAV won't create less pollution than vehicle traffic without it being in place. If that makes any sense...I'm not typing clearly today. KS
