THE most aggressive, in this geographic region. Rattlesnakes and copperheads are generally not real aggressive unless you surprise them, or corner them in a space with no obvious path of retreat. Cottonmouths will go out of their way to go AT you - and brother, they bring it. I've fished the lakes around here with my father for years, and we've had them swim out to the boat to try and take a shot at us.Two important FYIs here:
  1. Slapping the paddles on the water doesn't scare off a cottonmouth. It just makes them madder, and they bite at the paddles.
  2. You haven't lived until you've tried to shake a ticked-off cottonmouth loose of a paddle he's bitten on to.
    • Without landing him in the boat.
    • While 3-4 of his cousins are also trying to get in.
