Overly necessary rant: by skippy-ish_guy2005-09-11 00:29:48
That is illegal. by abaron 2005-09-11 00:55:04
At least here in BC, you are required to have 8 hours between two scheduled shifts, unless you are working split shifts, then it's 4. Since they are saying is manditory attendance then it's a shift. Also, here, at least, it's required that if they call you in for a shift they must pay you for 4 hours minumum, even if you don't work 4 hours; if they send you home before you start work for a scheduled shift it's 2 hours.

You could skip out, they can't sanction you in ANY way, if they did you could take 'em to labour relations and win; if you wanted. If you do show up for the meeting, however be sure to tell them that you are showing up even though they can't require you to be there for that meeting, if they give you static threaten to file a grievence, see if their tune changes.
