| Patched or not, they're preventable, though |

For the record, I'm not so much pro-Microsoft as I am anti-idiot. And our crybaby whining at The Register is an idiot.
My point, and Rosenberger's point, is that everything has bugs and it doesn't matter what you run once it's connected to the net. It's going to get exploited unless you take steps to prevent it. And I don't mean just patching.
I could have fifty computers with Firefox and Open Office running on XP, or I could have fifty computers with IE6 and Office 2000 on the same platform, and in either case they would be trouble-free. Because I practice prevention.
In most cases I'd say the machines I manage are six months or more behind in patches - because they won't pay me to update them - and they're run by average users who couldn't tell a security hole from a pothole. Yet they don't get viruses, worms or spyware - they haven't for two years.
So who cares how long it takes to get patches out? |
