... but speaking as a network admin (or whatever hat I'm wearing at the moment), I find it amazing how many networks, large and small, got hit by this thing.

Hasn't IT learned something from all the years fending off these things? I mean, this one spreads via file sharing ports that should never be exposed to the Internet. Seems to me that it should be easy to prevent infection. The only way I know about this worm is the news reports, as we've had the port blocked for a while.
