I'm listening to the Danny Lohner remix of "Freak on a Leash" by Korn (no, I'm not complaining about the song), playing through my computer, and I suddenly realise something.
The low-response quality is better from my inexpensive MP3 player.
It's not the headphones. They're DJ-quality Sonys. They have strong bass reproduction. I've heard it myself composing, tracking, and sequencing on my other machine.
It's not the file. MP3 has some horrible limitations, accurate bass resolution is not one of them. It could be the individual file being pre-equalised, but cycling through a few other known good files, I find that they too have the same problem. Practically no low-end response.
That leaves me with one option. The soundcard. Apparently, the PowerMac Snapper sucks.
Time to actually go and get me one of these little things, I think.... |
