Linux on 64 bits by thetree 2005-08-16 12:51:46
I am planning to build the next computer with a 64 bit processor, however, I am wondering what the deal is?

Can I run 32-bit programs on 64 bit machines?
Is there a 64-bit compiler for C(++)?

Could someone explain to me what advantages and disadvantages linux on amd64 opteron has?

Also, what is a good distro to install on the machine?

(I tried google, but couldn't find a pros and cns page anywhere)
