Leaving would definitely cause major instability, and many lives would be lost in the ensuing chaos. I'm just not sure that the lives lost when the withdrawal does come will be reduced enough to make up for the lives lost during the occupation.

The one factor that IMO weighs the scales towards getting out ASAP is to reduce the influence that the occupation forces are asserting on any possible future regime in Iraq. I guess it is similar to the principle prohibiting a criminal from profiting from his crime. It is the one thing that may reduce re-offending more than just about any other punishment.
