gone into Iraq in the first place; as you said, there are plenty of other places where the government is *at least* as bad (although they're generally not in as unstable or politically sensitive a region as the Middle East).

People I've talked to don't believe that being there is good, only that leaving is worse. I'm not sure how one can call a decision to leave unequivocally good, or claim that under the circumstances a US presence is wrong.

(Whether the circumstances should have arisen in the first place is debatable, but an entirely separate question. I'm not dealing with that question here, but only with the question of whether *given the circumstances* maintenance of a US presence in some form for some duration is right or wrong.)
