that the presence of an occupying army can improve a country's development of democracy. Or any stable government, for that matter. I don't think that assumption is true. I think that the best long-term solution is for the US to pull out ASAP. Most likely result of that is annexation of Iraq by Iran. If not in name, at least in fact. And I don't think any other result of US pulling out of Iraq is likely, whether that pulling out is now or sometime during the next five years. The only difference will be how many lives are lost.
