Just curious... evil_andy's anti-database post by tnglives 2006-11-19 12:55:59

here makes me wonder how many geeks are fed up with technology, or at least the current state thereof.

I tell anybody who'll listen that most "gee-whiz, this'll make our [cashiers|transcriptionists|support staff|etc] work 3 times faster" applications usually make things take 3 times longer. A well thought out app can make things faster, but if you ever find one of those, I'll give you a dollar. :-p

Sometimes I wonder what the heck I'm trying to do in a field where there's never enough time or money allocated to get anything right, half the tools are broken, and there are thousands of very good out-of-work people who'll take the job if I complain too much. Then I beat a system into submission, and feel better for a while. But it just doesn't feel like it's really for the greater good.
