If for the things he wants to do, Opera provides a more functional and reliable solution, price isn't the issue. People are willing to pay for something that works.
The only thing I rag on him for is that I think he's too harsh on the Mozilla folks, who really have produced an excellent product that's worth getting excited about. Firefox may not be the choice for everyone, but it's a really good browser that has turned a whole lot of people on to not just alternative browsing, but open-source software in general.
Add to that all the people who are writing quality extensions for it - therefore supporting the practice of releasing useful code to the web at large for free - and I think it benefits everybody in the long run, even if they don't use FF. The fewer people are willing to put up with crap from Microsoft that could and should be better, the larger the market for independent software companies like Opera, after all. |
