am baffled... comp fried? by maximumbob 2005-08-14 13:34:18
I was working with an older machine, updating some stuff while actually at the machine (not ssh). I'm plugged into a surge protector/UPS. Lighting strikes closeby, the lights blink, but as I'm on UPS, I don't lose power. However, the screen goes blank. The comp never blipped, the monitor is fine, but now there's no output to the graphics card.

I open it up, and see that there is not a slot to put in an old card I have. I proceed then to turn it on with everything plugged in. I can't find it on the network to ssh in. I can't see any burnt circuits, so I assume it's something internal, but I'm baffled as to how it got fried behind a surge protector and fuses in the power supply without anything else being fried too. I don't even know _what's_ fried.
