So I just let my WoW trial account expire. by Ravenlock 2005-08-14 08:37:03
I didn't think they were ever going to even have a free trial for WoW [World of Warcraft], but then finally the September issue of PC Gamer came with a DVD disc containing a 2-week trial. I can see now why they had to wait for a magazine to send out a DVD - it's a 4 gig install.

On the one hand, I'm glad to have the 4 gigs of my HD space back. In addition to the monthly fee, if you want to keep playing the game after the trial you need to enter a retail activation key, and I wasn't about to plunk down $50 for the privilege of continuing to run the code they had given me for free, just to then start paying a monthly fee as well.

On the other hand, though, it is the nicest MMO I've ever seen, and I have to respect them for knowing their audience and catering to it exquisitely. The races and classes are all well-defined and diverse, the world is HUGE and keeps you visiting new and different places, and the artwork is simply beautiful. If your jaw doesn't drop a little bit the first time you ride a griffin in that game, you may have no soul. :-p

So yeah, mixed feelings. Glad I managed to resist paying for a time sink and happy to have 4 gigs of my HD back, but also glad I got to experience it and I could maybe see myself going back sometime in the future if the retail price gets reasonable and I have cash to burn.
