People believe that the tool used is the problem. Much as the gun is blamed as the killing tool, the US Military gets blamed for it being used to intervene. When the world quits using our troops to go on UN "peacekeeping" missions we won't need to be that powerful. The other nations use our forces so that they can keep their military forces smaller. They use the military hardware we pay to have developed. They use the weapons we pay to design. They use the technology we test. So we have a higher budget, but we're designing the equipment the other countries don't have the funding to develop, but still use...
