this nifty thing called the UN (which the current "administration" is trying to gut, destroy, remove, bankrupt, and "take the top ten floors" off of).
Yes, there is corruption in the present marginalized United Nations, but when has that ever changed, anywhere? We have corruption right here in our own little Peyton Place. Just ask Tom Delay if you don't believe me. Rename it if you have to, and reform it as it should have been and was started out to be, but with real commitment to the success of the venture.
Peace-keeping Forces with real support and not just lip service. Multi-national, and if your country is involved in the fracas of invading someone else, your troops get to go play in another place and stay out of it.
Who gave us the right to be the big bad bully-boys over the whole world? Just because we have too many bombs, and too many jerks in place willing to use them? Wrong Answer!
The U.S. is not the cops for the planet. Get together a non-nationalistic, non-jingoistic well-equipped and determined multi-national force to keep EVERYBODY honest and in their own back yard. You want a military of your own? Fine. For every dollar, ruble, or dinar you spend on yours, you send two more to the UN for the UN forces. Spend less on war-making, owe less for peacekeeping.
Not perfect, maybe not even a particularly good idea, but off the cuff it could be worked. It just might keep another Iraq, VietNam, Darfur, or Angola from happening next week.
(I hear the Commander-in-Thief is getting prepped for another Wargasm: nukes in Iran, next on Oprah. Oh, my people!)
The United States is a truly amazing place, such a morass of missed opportunities, lost possibilities and wasted potential, and still we do as well as we have thus far.
Can you imagine the might of this country, which provided all of those bombers, fighters, ships, munitions, and weapons for WW II in less than three years, turned toward making the same kinds of gains in peaceful directions?
What COULDN'T we do, if we quit spending all of our time, effort, money, and energy on building and refining killing machines?
