You know as well as I do that the U.S.'s military expenditures are way out of the ballpark as far as necessity. China's spending is less than one-seventh of that of the U.S., and they're way behind in technology too.

Historically, correlation doesn't equate to causation. I'll make it a point to do some digging next week (time is a bit short now) and show how "peace spending" had less to do with the U.S. getting poked -- and in fact I think I can prove that the U.S. provoked the poking in many cases.
