...may put the lie to the original quote, but doesn't hide the fact that the U.S. spends more on military might than any other nation on the planet, and by far (more than six times the second-place spender, Russia!).

I think wwill's sentiment still remains. If the US spent most of it's military budget on internal programs the amount of good that could be acheived would be astronomical.

But we all know what the military-industrial complex is like. It hungers for money and it hates any administration that doesn't kowtow to it.
