At an extended family birthday dinner, the birthday boy (at age 50) and the people bringin him arrived over an hour late and provided no excuse or reason. Others were more than a little torqued, as it was approaching 7pm, and I took it upon myself to throw alternate topics of conversation into the mix, thereby muting the potentially foul moods that would have arisen.
