Except that I was on a rather empty stretch of the Trans-Canada and the SUV driver did the same thing in the slow-lane (I was doing 110km/h, the fast-lane was clear, he didn't want to move over to go by me).
I stayed in the lane and stayed put. He rode my bumper, at 110, and I slowed down to 100, then 90... and then he rode the horn, went out and around, cut me off, and took the exit that was ~200m away. The only mistake I made was that I blinked him with highbeams (and with 4 headlights, it *is* noticeable, hehe). That resulted in him careening down the on-ramp on the other side, passing a car on the on-ramp in the process, and lining up behind me with his highbeams and his horn going. So, flipped on the radar detector and booted it... he caught up almost a good minute after I hit 160 (with no one else on the road, and no reasonably close/familiar place to pull off) and I promptly dropped the speed back to exactly on the limit again. He pulled around in front and tried to slow *me* down... which he did, to about 60km/h. He then signalled for the shoulder, and when I didn't move to follow him, continued to block my forward progress at any higher speed. So, I feigned following him to the curb, then wound 'er up again and took off past him.
2 exits later was one that had populace nearby, and familiar grounds, so I took it. The fact that there were significant numbers of other vehicles around seemed to deter him, as he pulled a couple of illegel u-turns in getting back onto the highway headed back the way we had come from.
I was glad I had a V8 to work with, a car that was in good shape, and I also remembered to carry my cell phone with me at all times from then on :( |
