in rapid succession at the same store may have also triggered a red flag. It's the kind of thing someone using a stolen account number might do, especially involving computer equipment and other easily resalable items.

A friend of mine got a denial after making several Christmas purchases online in about a 10 minute period.

Some credit card processors are getting into extremely sophisticated real-time fraud detection algorithms.

But to attempt to retroactively dishonor a check is odd, and may violate consumer protection laws.
