I cashed in some stocks the other day and decided to go shopping today. Took my check book with me.
Bought a laser printer (my first one evar), toner cartridge, some cables, etc. Wrote a check for it. They transacted the sale, and gave me a receipt.
I wanted a file cabinet as well, but the one I wanted, they didn't have in stock. So they were processing a special order for it as a separate sale. I guess part of the special order process is that they have to call in personal checks before accepting them. So they call mine in, and it's declined. o.O Whatever. I figure, ok, fine, I'll buy it somewhere else. I take back the declined check.
As he's handing it back to me, he tells me he has to verify the other one now as well. o.O Whatever. So he calls it in, and that one is declined as well. No surprise, huh? So now he tells me that he has to refund everything.
Problem.
He tells me that he was told not to accept the check. I tell him that he already DID accept the check, and I have a receipt for it. I tell him that if I hadn't waited to order the file cabinet, I would have been home, free and clear.
He again tells me that he has to refund everything, and don't I have a debit or credit card I can use?
I tell him yeah, I have debit and credit cards, but no, I'm not going to use them. The one check, I understood, because that was refused before the sale. But this check has already been accepted, I have the receipt for the purchase, and to force a refund is wrong. And from now on, I'll be shopping elsewhere.
Then I'm told that they can't force the refund. That they would appreciate my cooperation, but if I choose to leave with my purchase, they can't stop me.
At which point, I informed them that I do, indeed, choose to leave with the purchase, and I wondered why they were even wasting my time with that argument, and why they originally told me they HAD to refund the items. Seriously, WTF? |
