They explained it quite well during the Iraq invasion. They explained it again several times. And if you even bothered to read the Geneva conventions you might have known that(sorry its been one of my talking points for several years. Spies, and saboteurs, any combattants who do not wear a recognizable military uniform are not proteced. Um if you really look at what the US government has done they have just consistently been re-explaining the conventions to those who say its wrong to detain them.
