| I bought my Dell Inspiron 600m laptop in April of last year. The LCD came scratched, apparently by it being designed to sit too close to the wristrest when the LCD is closed.
I should have seen that as a sign, as since then the motherboard has been replaced 3 times (LCD replacement, then Ethernet port died, then built-in mic wouldn't work), as well as the AC adapter's cord sheath coming undone as well as a loose wire forming in the wall plug. And I do treat my laptop relatively well - no different than any of my previous laptops (owned and/or given to me for work) - and none of those had these problems.
On top of that, I bought next business day support, but twice now that's turned into one-to-two week support. Not a pleasant feeling I'm getting from Dell in general.
So I've sent a complaint letter to Dell, but meanwhile, I want to start considering getting another laptop should they agree to refund me for my purchase. Any recommendations?
Even though IBM ThinkPad is now owned by Red China, I was impressed with their phone support recently (my Dad has a ThinkPad) - I got a person who spoke wonderful, accentless English, who was able to answer the question I had about adding in a miniPCI card that wasn't originally spec'd for my Dad's laptop. I also don't know if I can get a keyboard with a Windows key from IBM...
A friend mentioned Alienware, telling me they're known for top-notch equipment, but I know nothing of their support.
So if anybody can make a recommendation of a quality laptop manufacturers, or a good mag or site to go to for reviews, I'd mighty appreciate it.
