| Maryland highway signs |

| On the beltway around D.C. (only on the Maryland side), there are a few of those electronic traffic notification signs. If there isn't a traffic jam to report, they say "Report Suspicious Activity Call some phone number" Now...I'm all for community involvement and lowering crime, but something about it smacks of 1936 Germany to me. I swear, everytime I see them what I really see is "It's your responsibility to the Fatherland to Denounce Jews, Communists, Homosexuals and Gypsies. Report them immediately to your local Gestapo office." Is this just my deep seated distrust of Government (particularly law enforcement) manifesting itself? Or does anyone else get the willies about street signs encouraging citizens to snitch on each other? |
