it early, though it was already massively flawed.

A good Scientific study eliminates as many variables as possible, except the one being tested. As infection per exposure is the point of the study, the random exposure in this study is a fatal flaw, rendering the results meaningless.

Stopping the study when a desired trend, which cannot be shown to be other than random effects, is seen just eliminates the possibility for random effects to equalize the trend, or even swing it the other way.
