tell me that once you have been in combat that no matter what you do there are certain things that you will always react to in a "combat" mode. The key to it is to recognize this and damp down the combat reaction. This may take longer in some than in others to happen.

A good example of this: My uncle who was in WWII special forces and was a retired Colorado PD officer was talking to me in front of our house when a tire blew out on a car driving by. I jumped and looked around and he had started to dive behind the tire of his truck when he stopped himself in mid-crouch. His response was "Old habits die hard."...he was 68 years old at the time.
