the story reads like he was threatened with a knife while unarmed, so decided to go armed. While armed he was confronted and a gun was pointed at him. His training took over. The police were quted in the article as corroborating the story of the other gun saying that three 9mm rounds had been fired from the victim's boyfriend's gun. This isn't about addiction to firepower, it's about consditioned response to danger and perceived threats.
