... make sure it is as hot as you can stand. Rubbing alcohol can be used, try alcohol swabs like nurses use. The ancients used to use wine and oil to cleanse a wound, but I wouldn't try it unless you have no other choice. These are, of course, if you are using it to sterilize things like thermometers or to cleanse wounds. I would still check with a doctor.
