When I was in college (Great Books liberal arts place), the Search/Rescue team I was on all had to take a Civil Air Patrol "Radio Protocols" test in order to get certified to use the CAP frequencies on search missions.
Because we had lots of BIG classrooms, the CAP instructors held the 'class' on campus. So it's about ten crew-cut kids in uniform, two instructors, and about 15 of us lib arts types (OK, 'hippies')...
OOps, did I say class? I meant 'test'. Only instead of administering the test, they walked us all through it.
