a self-publishing company by plblark2006-11-19 12:55:59

but it looks to me that they are offering a way to sell their creative works without having to (a) find a "real" publisher to take the risk or (b) invest in their own self-publishing (in other words, ordering large quantites of product with no guarantee of any sales) before they start marketing.

In my personal case, I am planning to manufacture about 1000 units of my new CD (which I have to pay for out of my own pocket) and hope that they sell. I may look to this selling model for my first album (which is almost sold out), so it can continue to be "in print" without any further investment on my part.

I would guess that the authors still have to do most of the marketing on their own.
