..and i don't think it's quite correct. One must generalize from one's own sense of what is objectively right and wrong, but one's sense of right and wrong should not be regarded as a collection of personal preferences. Rather, it should be one's best perception or discernment of the truth, based on objective logic.
The difference between the two is in the resulting general moral consensus, to coin your phrase. The population, in the first case, has essentially voted on what they wish the truth to be. In the second case, the population uses reason and logic to gain its best possible determination of the true nature of good and evil in the issue at hand.
