is that your right to swing your fist ends at another man's face.
That is to say, *generally speaking*, when people are not harming anyone they are generally ethically justified in doing as they wish. If consenting adults want to be filmed having intercourse, and other consenting adults want to pay money to watch this, that transaction hurts neither party.
Whether it hurts their outside relationships is (1) unknowable - in some cases it may, in others it may not - and (2) not really anyone's business but theirs. That pornography MAY cause strife between married couples, or lead to a skewed view of sexuality, or <insert ill here> is not a reason to do away with it any more than the possibility of alcoholism is valid support for prohibition. Of course there are people who still think prohibition was a good idea, so.
My only serious concern with the industry is that it does lend itself to situations where people are taken advantage of in a legal sense - in the worst cases physically, in less severe cases psychologically or financially. It should go without saying that in situations where people are being exploited in those ways, the law should be used to stop that. |
