Do you have a secondary system? by afterburner 2005-08-04 03:56:40
It would be much easier that way but if not, you have to copy/print the text.

Okay ls is the command you use to list directory contents. cd $dirname or cd .. is to change directory, the latter moves one directory level down.
mount-command allows you to mount drives, it needs two parameters: 1. the device you want to mount (in this case /dev/hda1 for your ide drive C: and either /dev/hdb1 or /dev/sda1 to the first partition on your second drive) and the directory to mount it (in repair situations /mnt/$dirname)
The grub config-file is in /boot/ or in grub-subdirectory, filename is most probably menu.lst. That should be in your /-partition (root).

What you do is you boot with the repair. Then you create a new directory to the /mnt-directory for the root. Mount it using the mount-command. After that you move to the boot-directory and find the grub configuration file. You could post it here to see if there's something wrong with it. If some point is unsure just ask more.

Or you could just test the Mandrake as suggested somewhere else :-)
