I'm wondering if Grub isn't trying to write to drive two (as I assume that's where you are installing it) so the MBR on drive one never gets anything but the winloader. Also, justlinux.com is, in my experience, a pretty good place to ask questions without the 'google for it' response. As long as you've searched their archives and it hasn't been asked and answered 43*10^61 times already.
