For almost all other "viral diseases", where vaccination works, the finding of the antibodies meant, that "either you have been vaccinated and now are immune" or "you got infected, but your body reacts in the proper sense to cope with the bugger". So the antibody-search, if positive, was followed by a virus search. If theantibodies "outnumber" the viri, you were told you're OK.
For HIV, I never heard the searced for the VIRUS anywhere, only for antibodies. But what if "the antibody" iszn't specific enough, as e.g. would prevent you from being infected with something else? (That suggestion wasn't even mine, I nicked it from some african, who stated that the HIV antibody indeed could protect people from getting infected with one of the tropical diseases)
In that case, you won't know wether your body is -rightly and successfully- fighting some tropical germ (enough travelers around us these days) OR if it is indeed trying to fight HIV
But still: I DO wish you that "luck". If they do NOT find the antibodies, your own body doesn't even TRY to fight HIV (nor that special tropical thing) so let's hope nothing will be found.
