disrespectful. And I pointed that if you appreciate other people respecting your beliefs, you should extend the same courtesy. I don't think that's an unreasonable thing to ask.

And as has been said, it wasn't the phrase that I found disrespectful, it was the attitude.

You seem to be implying that ritual and ceremony are unnecessary. I think if you took a closer look at your own behavior within relationships you would find more ritual and ceremony than you realize.

If you feel that marriage is unimportant and insignificant in your life and for your relationships, that's your business. I'm simply asking that you not demean it for those who do find it important and significant. Their beliefs just as important to them as yours are to you. Is it really too much to ask you to offer them the same respect that you would expect them to offer you?

And if it is too much to ask, why so?
