| Scotty vs Kirk, Doohan vs Shatner |

Being a lifelong Trekkie (and not ashamed of it, either), I had the opportunity to meet almost all of the main characters at one time or another.
I met Shatner when he was playing in The Tender Trap at the Playhouse on the Mall in Paramus, NJ. My brother played keyboards for the show and got me in to meet him. Shatner was pretty short with me and definitely didn't care to meet a young fan. I still remember him being somewhat curt with me. Jerk.
Doohan ("pronounced 'doin'', like how are ya doin', what are ya doin'', as Mr Doohan put it), OTOH, I got to meet at a convention and got the opportunity to sit down with him, a couple other fans, and his lovely girlfriend (later wife). James Doohan was as gracious as could be to a kid with a BAD case of hero worship. 30+ years later, I still remember that with fondness... and tears when I heard of his death.
He was a classy gentleman, and the world is a poorer place without him.
