Personally, I think he should have fired twice and that would have been safe. Why did he fire five times? Maybe he was seriously thinking "He may not be dead yet and if I don't kill him, all these people will die", or maybe he was thinking "If I don't kill this guy, he's going to kill me; let her rip". I personally think the latter is more likely.

I.e. what I'm saying is that a considered approach is that you fire once or twice and stop. A panicked approach is that you keep firing. I don't think this was a considered approach.
