The opening brace goes below the conditional, though :-)
if (x)
{
   if (y)
   {
      stuff;
   }
}
Yes, it takes up more room, but I find it ***so*** much easier to see where a block begins/ends. I just have problems scanning to the right-hand end of the opening part of the block for the not-necessarily-required brace.
