The example shown would best be coded as:
if (<cond> && <othercond>)
abort();

Breaking the multiple conditions into a series of nested 'if' statements runs the risk (in real life) of being open to misinterpretation. Subsequent coders may add additional statements between the first and second 'if's. Over time, this could result in the desired behaviour being corrupted.

As for which method is more efficient at the assembly level... who cares? It's really not important. Seriously.
