However, most if not all of the Second Amendment writings you will find refer to small arms. Specifically common weaponry carried by ground forces in combat. In today's world that would mean an M-16 variant, a Beretta M9 variant, and some kind of pump shotgun would be considered weapons specifically protected by the Second Amendment.

Based on the history of the DCM which was originally founded with the purpose of making it easy for the un-organized militia to learn and maintain proficiency in arms. One could argue all U.S. Military issue arms from WWI to current date should be protected. As for deer rifles and duck shotguns... They are offered no such protection specifically.
