To the best of my knowledge, which is by no means authoritative or overly accurate, the position of the NRA tends to be one of "any type of firearm should be legal for any legal owner".
RPGs, mini-nukes, hand grenades, pipe bombs, etc., kill indiscriminately and pose storage hazards to all. Thus, they are not readily useful or morally needed by the masses.
Firearms are used on individual targets; they are used readily and morally by the masses for self defense and sporting purposes.
