I have a Oly-C-5000z.
Important things I see on mine:
- Min. shutter speed: 16. You're choosing cameras with 4 sec as the slowest shutter speed. It's enough in most of the cases, but I prefer a longer one for pictures of lightnings or cities at night.
- Manual focus and manual settings (Apert, shutt, ISO, WB)
- Macro: 1.5 inch. It's very good for close-ups of flowers, insects, etc.
- Panorama. With Olympus chips, you just panorama, and the software stiches it for you. I know you can do it with another software, but for me, this helps a lot.
About the memory ... I don't like xD. I think it's great the fact it's soo small, but there's no space to grow. The maximum you can get right now is 1GB, but it's always behind SD and CF, and it's a bit more expensive. I have a 256MB, and it stores about 250 pics in the good resolution (5MP). The main problem that I see is that I see some kind of competition between brands. For example, there are standar card readers, that come with 4 different slots. Well ... xD is not one of them. The option is to buy the adaptor for CF (yes you can convert an xD on a CF), buy your xD card reader, burn your CD when you go to print shop, or load the pics on a USB key (that I lost in my last trip), hoping they read USB keys on the store.
Battery I don't have a problem. I bought a "compatible" for cheap on ebay, and I use it on emergency cases. Since then, I have never ran out of battery, and I take a lot of pictures when I travel (~600 for 2 weeks).
My camera is made of some kind of plastic. That makes it a lot cheaper. I really don't find the necessity of metal, unless you drop the camera regularly (never happened). That also makes it a lot lighter.
For action shots I don't think it matters to have such hich shutter speed. Remeber the lenses are not fast, and you usually will require the exposure be slower than 1/500 to have a good exposure.
Wow this got very long. Hope it helps. |
