I ended up on the Washington DC beltway. I was at the point where I could either steer or maintain a constant speed, but not both simultaneously, and the instructor said, "Turn left here." So I did, and just as I was being all proud of myself for turning smoothly, I realized that it was an on-ramp. I carried the emotional scars for decades.
