I've spent an extra $30 on $600 worth of gas. That's noticeable, but I question whether it's all that important. This, of course, is based on my experience -- keep in mind that 21 tanks of gas (15 gallon tank) is about what I use in a year. Eight or ten cents extra per day is not a huge deal in my book.
Besides which, I further question whether that correctly mirrors the loss in productivity caused by extra features on a computer program. It seems to me that the largest loss (of time in trying to figure out where a function is, and how it works) is the first few times you use it; after that, you learn it and it doesn't slow you down any more. Your car, on the other hand, won't learn how to run more efficiently on a badly tuned engine, no matter how long you give it. |
