Data Marines are pretty darn good at what they do, and the Corps spares no expense in training them. I've taken a few high-priced classes that had Marines in them, and all of them really knew their stuff. Maybe a former Marine can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they let you enlist for it. Every single one of them I've met has said "Yeah, I used to be in the (artillery/infantry/commo shop/whatever) but the Corps made me take a test and moved me over to the Data section."
